Retro and vintage lamps are certainly growing in popularity. These quirky, unique looking lamps, in technical terms, are referred to as ‘Filament Lamps’, but unlike other bulbs, these lamps are not restricted to one use and one use only – to provide light, they can be used for many different situations in many ways. These stunning lamps also come in an energy-saving LED version, making them not only stylish but also practical for the modern home of today.
So, what are Filament Lamps?
These are bulbs that use an exposed filament design. It is the exposed core and the design of the filament/wire within the lamp that creates the vintage and retro atmosphere surrounding them. However, this design has another advantage: because the electrical current is travelling through the filament, the direction of the light can be exposed fully within a space, as opposed to travelling in one direction. The clear glass that encases these lamps also aids to the exposure of the light, as it too doesn’t restrict where the light can travel.
Why choose LED Filament Lamps over Filament lamps?
At National Lighting we have a wide range of LED Filament lamps that are being purchased by our customers every day. First off, the most obvious reason is that one is LED and the other one isn’t. As previously mentioned, the LED equivalent of the Filament lamp is more energy-efficient, allowing you to save some money on your next energy bill. Second, LED bulbs also last longer when compared to a halogen. On average, LED lamps can last up to 10 years, helping you to avoid having to change them so often. Last but not least, LED filaments also give off less heat when compared to the regular filament lamp (don’t get me wrong, they both give off heat) but the LED Filaments are nowhere near as hot as the average filaments lamp, which can potentially become extremely hot, therefore dangerous.
How to use them…
I cannot stress the opinion on how these Retro Filament Lamps are a great way to incorporate a vintage flair to your home. Adding a high-end yet comfy feel to any space, without even trying. Restaurants are also a great place to utilise these lamps. It is quite rare to not find a filament lamp or two popped above a bar within a restaurant these days, as they also help to create a great ambience.
The hype over Filament lamps has recently soared in the lighting industry. Thanks to its aesthetically pleasing designs, inspired by its predecessor the Incandescent bulbs which looked very similar (however, lacked energy efficiency). People can now take this high-end niche design and incorporate it into their own homes or business, without having to break the bank.
