Autumn/Winter 2020 Lighting Trends

I think I speak for all at National Lighting when I say ‘time has flown by this year’, as we have reached that time of year again, where we share the latest Lighting trends for this coming Autumn/Winter. Some trends I have already touched upon in my previous blog ‘Summer 2020 Lighting Trends‘ and which I can confidently say will not be disappearing anytime soon, whereas some trends might surprise you. Once again, while this season will not bring any drastic changes in the lighting industry, there are few standout trends guaranteed to illuminate the beauty of your home.

1. Mid-century Modern – Bringing the 60s back with Spheres

This season we are seeing a lot of Spheres, circle rings and globe style pendants appearing everywhere within home-decor and lighting magazines. The Mid-century modern trend of using spheres are not only unique in the way they bounce and reflect light around a space, but they are also remarkably designed. Used as a finishing touch in multiple lighting fixtures, these lights emphasise on art and display a love for natural shapes using spheres/circular objects/patterns that merge function with beauty. The 2020 take on the Mid-century lighting trend falls towards a more laid-back fun design. You can use in any space within your home whether it be the living room or your kitchen, these 6os inspired fixtures will help to add an artistic feel.

2. Wall Lamps – Making a comeback

In general Wall lights, are often thought of functional put uninspiring fixtures, hence why they are always forgotten within homes of today. However, this season we are seeing the comeback of underrated wall lights. In my opinion wall lamps are a vital part of not only the interior scheme of a house but the lighting scheme as well. A wall lamp helps to provide symmetry and harmony within your aesthetic, but it also helps to light up a dark corner in your home where a ceiling pendant or a table lamp might not work. At the same time, a wall light helps to highlight your favourite piece of art furniture or accessory. To utilise these fixtures a bit more, why not swap out your bedside lamp for a Reading Wall light, guaranteeing that you will never miss-read another word during your late-night reads.

3. Minimalism – Less is More

The Minimalist trend within the lighting industry has become a recurring trend throughout the year of 2020; Unquestionably loved by everyone and one of my personal favourites. The clean, unfussy, and pared-back design of these fixtures works with light to elevate the style rather than using metalwork and crystal, thus blending seamlessly into a modern space. Like I have mentioned in my blog ‘clean lines… Discover our Minimalist Collection‘, letting these fixtures stand on their own without being crowed aids to the beauty of the light. However as discussed, if you want more of a pop in your decor, using these lights as an accent piece in the corner of a study or an empty room, can help to elevate and transform it from just another room in your home.

4. Floor and Table Lamps – Make a statement

Finally, this trend is more of a continuation rather than a new one, however this season we are seeing it at its best. It is no surprise to us that table and floor lamps are not sitting quietly in the corner of a room anymore instead, they have become somewhat of a centrepiece, knocking the chandelier off the number one spot in lighting. As the average floor and table lamp has changed from a boring old light fixture that would have usually been hidden away in the corner of a room to a bold statement piece with plenty of pizazz and flair. The everyday consumer is ditching the overbearing traditional chandelier/pendant and opting for a fresh look with a table or a floor lamp. In my opinion, the best part about this trend is that it allows the consumer to adjust the light where needed. Whether it be on the side of your bed or in the corner of a room, these fixtures are yours to personalise.
